The Anti-Burnout Club

The BURN Framework

Your practical cheatsheet for burning the burnout.

No yoga, no meditation, no "have you tried just having a bath?". BURN is the practical, four-part framework I use to stop burnout before it takes over - and it only takes 2 minutes a day, 10 minutes a week, 30 minutes a month. Work through each part below and save your own plan at the end to come back to at any time.

πŸ”’ Your BURN plan saves automatically to this browser only β€” nothing is sent anywhere, no account needed, completely private. If you clear your browser data, then please note you will lose the saved data. We recommend sending the plan to yourself each time.

Start Here

Welcome πŸ’• This site is your interactive companion to the BURN framework. Work your way through each tab in order - understand the framework element, do the short activities, and at the end you'll have your own personal BURN plan to save, download or email yourself.

How to use it: there's no rush and no right answer. Skip what doesn't fit, come back anytime β€” your plan saves privately to this browser as you go.

The basics

What burnout actually is

Burnout isn't just being tired or having a hard week. The WHO defines it as chronic workplace stress that hasn't been managed, but in real life it bleeds into everything: work, home, parenting, caring, school, the lot.

It shows up mainly as three key elements:

  • ExhaustionΒ - the kind that sleep doesn't fix.
  • CynicismΒ or detachment from things you used to care about.
  • Reduced effectivenessΒ - feeling like nothing you do works or matters.

It builds slowly. Which is exactly why catching it early matters (take it from someone who burnt out spectacularly twice)!

Stress vs burnout

Stress πŸƒ
Burnout 🚨
"I have too much to do!" (urgent)
"Nothing I do makes a difference." (hopeless)
Short-term, comes in waves
Long-term, lingers for weeks/months
High energy but on edge
Completely drained, exhausted
Anxiety, racing thoughts
Emotional numbness, detachment
Feels like you need to do more
Feels like you can't do anything
You care too much
You stop caring
Physical tension, restlessness
Chronic fatigue, lack of motivation
Still able to feel relief after a break
No amount of rest feels like enough

About Bex

Bex Spiller burnt out. Properly. And when she went looking for help, everyone told her to try yoga and drink more water. After losing her mum to poor mental health and her dad to stress-related heart disease, she knew she didn't want to go the same way.

So she went and studied it instead β€” postgraduate research in organisational behaviour, the economics of wellbeing and leadership β€” and built The Anti-Burnout Club, an award-winning social enterprise, because nobody should have to figure this stuff out alone.

She's burnt out twice, which means she understands it from the inside as well as the research. That combination β€” lived experience plus serious academic grounding β€” is what makes her sessions hit differently to your average wellness talk.

Now Bex gets to do the best job in the world: standing on stages having honest, engaging, sometimes uncomfortable conversations about why we burn out and what we can actually do about it.

No corporate fluff. No "have you tried breathing?" Just real tools, real talk, and rooms full of people who leave feeling genuinely different about how they live and work.
